Hello

How reliable is the information regarding Blu Ray Region coding on the DTV
Forum web page? I'd like to purchase a Blu Ray of No Copuntry for Old Men
and on Amazon's site it's listed as Region 1 only not all Region as stated
on the DTV site.

Thank you Shawn.

The DVT Forum info is mainly based on contributed information. See Momow's
disclaimer in the thread.
Region 1, 2 3, etc refer to the DVD specification not the Blu-ray
specification.
Blu-ray uses Regions A, B and C.
Lots of Blu-ray so called Region specific titles are indeed not "locked" to
that particular region.
It isn't true however of ALL Blu-ray titles, hence the RED listed titles on
Momow's list.

www.amazon.com is a US based company and all the Blu-ray titles sold on that
website are nominally Region A unless specified otherwise. For Region B
(Australia etc) titles, go to www.amazon.co.uk

If No Country for Old Men is listed as "region free" is most likely is. If
unsure, become a member of the forum and post a question in the Blu-ray
section to hopefully get a reply confirming this.

Cheers,
Alan

What's going to be the go with this? Will the studios finally be able to
stop us buying titles direct from the likes of Amazon? Or will it be like
previous technologies - ten minutes after it's released, a hack will be
available to defeat it?

the Blu Ray encryption is already hacked, I'm sure firmware "Patches" will
be available for the popular models of BR player once they become
mainstream.

To add to the confusion is that some BluRay players will allow regio
setting contrary to the instructions manual.
I bought a Chinese brand that is sold at couple of Discount dealers an
the book specificaly states it is locked to Region 4 for DVD's and th
BluRay code cant be altered..
On checking with Videohelp it said otherwise and when I went thru th
menu, sure enough the DVD part was set at Region 0 or Free for DVD's an
the BluRay code could be changed to suit the code on the Disk as ther
is no 'Region Free' option for BluRay at least on this player
