I just found confirmed that Allo Allo and The Good Life are released in
Britain in PAL format, whereas we get the US NTSC release in Australia(?)

No. They're PAL originally. Britain sell the PAL ones. They sell us
the USA releases. They have been converted from PAL to NTSC which is
the stupidest thing I have ever known for a DVD made on the PAL system
in the first place.
