Researching bluray players, I know little about them.
Do region restrictions actually work with all Bluray players?
Seems that using copying software with overseas copies is the way to go.
Do they always remove region restrictions?

There are Blu-ray regions and there are "region free" players. You can buy expensive
modded name brand players or out of the box yum cha brands for under $200 that are region
free (or region changeable).

I have one of the latter (from Ebay) and it works brilliantly with my 55" full HD LCD TV.

Thanks, so they do make region free players then. I only buy what I'm
used to, Sony seem good with making DVDs things multi-region, as well as
the RCE encoding being bypassed.
I wish I could find more on people's experiences with copying bluray discs.

I've researched, I've found that splitting of movies onto two Bluray
discs hasn't really been worked out yet. I don't if AnyDvd do it, but I
wouldn't be sure.

I'm just wondering how many commercial Blurays are double layer.
You can find at least one program I've never heard of before which claim
to do something like it. One has been sent to a number of forums, but I
can't find any other comments about it, forget the name.

Also, the question is how long does it take to copy a Bluray disc, in
ripping and burning, and in processing the files. I wouldn't want to
try to compress one. It would be faster than the actual play time surely.

You can in my part of the world buy Oppo region free BD players at a
price.

From that link, do many different players do this:
"When playing SACD, the BDP-80 can output DSD (Direct Stream Digital)
over HDMI in its native format or convert it into high-resolution PCM."

I bought an Oppo BDP 83 from Audioholics in the States for $US 499
plus $120 freight to Australia. You can get it shipped from www.oppo.com
for same cost.
Then on Ebay I bought from an outfit in Denmark a hardware modding kit
for $75 including postage. Took 10 minutes to fit it internally to
turn the machine into full multi-region for both Blu rays and DVDs. It
was simplicity itself.
The Oppo has the advantage of having the best upscaling of DVDs on any
machine available today. Results are oustanding on my 120-inch
projector system (Epson HD projector). And it also plays Super Audio
CDs (SACD) and DVD-Audio as well. It's a lot cheaper doing it this way
than buying from the NZ or Australian Oppo retailers.

Many Blu Ray can be made region free for DVD quite simply (panasonic
for example) however Blu Ray is a different story. The most common
player region free for both is the Oppo in this part of the world but
it aint cheap.
Not sure but gven the prices its almost cheaper to have two as Region
A Blu Ray can be got quite cheaply.
