One of the problems I've read for releasing the DVDs of Batman from the
60s was supposed to be getting clearance or what they do with all the
major stars in it. But Heres Lucy has major stars in almost every
episode and that is out.

most likely because all the stars who appeared on lucys show were all
personal friends of hers.
i dont see why they would need clearance from any stars who appeared on
batman a lot of them would be dead or in the retirement home
they all signed contracts to be in the show so the studio that owns the show
wouldnt need permission from anyone to release them.

Yeah, but the contract then was different to the contract now.

Then the contract would have included original showing and residuals
for repeats.

These days they include all that, DVD and video release, use of the
image for other things (trading cards, etc), figures, and more
recently online release.

So, no, any contract signed in the 60s would not automatic include any
other usage possible, only those included in the actual contract.

they wouldnt need any new contracts pertaining to dvd releases, the studios
own the copyright so they can do what they like with the tv shows.
All these old shows out on dvd ive never heard of any studios having to get
permission from the actors to release them on dvd,the studios own the
copyright not the actors so the actors get no say in it.
I know actors in the US get royalties for re-runs on tv so all they might
have to do is give some percentage of royalities from dvd sales to the
actors or their estates if there deceased.
